🗂️ SPEC COMPLETE

Clearly

A card you hold up that shows how you're communicating right now.

Like an “on-air” light outside a radio studio — one glance, immediately actionable.

What it is

Clearly is one big, glanceable screen: your current communication mode in plain language, what it means practically, and how to help. You update it in a couple of taps; whoever you show it to reads it in about two seconds. No conversation you might not have the words for, no awkward explaining required.

How it works

  1. Open the app (or a home-screen widget) — the default screen is always your current state, full-screen, high-contrast.
  2. If it needs updating: tap “change,” pick a preset, done — no confirm step, since confirm steps are friction you don't want mid-struggle.
  3. Hand the phone over, or turn the screen to face the other person.
  4. Custom modes can be created for anything the presets don't cover.

Why it exists

The problem

Communication ability isn't fixed for a lot of ND and dissociative experiences — it fluctuates, sometimes hour to hour. Existing tools assume a permanent state (a laminated card, an AAC app built for one mode). Clearly's entire design problem is showing the current truth, fast, with near-zero effort to update it.

Under the hood

Deliberately tiny in scope — no backend, no sync, no auto-detection.
